My Foster Dog is beautiful
My foster dog stinks to high heaven. I don't know for sure what breed he is. His eyes are blank and hard. He won't let me pet him and growls when I reach for him. He has ragged scars and crusty sores on his skin. His nails are long and his teeth which he showed me are stained. I sigh. I drove two hours for this. I carefully maneuver him so that I can stuff him in the crate. Then I heft the crate and put it in the car. I am going home with my new foster dog.

At home I leave him in the crate till all the other dogs are in the yard. I get him out of the crate and ask him if he wants 'outside.' As I lead him to the door he hikes his leg on the wall and shows me his stained teeth again. When we come in he goes to the crate because that's the only safe place he sees. I offer him food but he won't eat it if I look at him, so I turn my back. When I come back the food is gone. I ask again about 'outside.' When we come back I pat him before I let him in the crate, he jerks away and runs into the crate to show me his teeth.

The next day I decide I can't stand the stink any longer I lead him into the bath with cheese in my hand. His fear of me is not quite overcome by his wish for the cheese. And well he should fear me, for I will give him a bath. After an attempt or two to bail out he is defeated and stands there. I have bathed four legged bath squirters for more dog years than he has been alive. His only defense was a show of his stained teeth that did not hold up to a face full of water. As I wash him it is almost as if I wash not only the stink and dirt away but also some of his hardness. His eyes look full of sadness now. And he looks completely pitiful as only a soap covered dog can. I tell him that he will feel better when he is cleaned. After the soap the towels are not too bad so he lets me rub him dry. I take him outside. He runs for joy. The joy of not being in the tub and the joy of being clean. I, the bath giver, am allowed to share the joy. He comes to me and lets me pet him.

One week later I have a vet bill. His skin is healing. He likes for me to pet him. I think I know what color he will be when his hair grows in. I have found out he is terrified of other dogs. So I carefully introduce him to my mildest four legged brat. It doesn't go well.

Two weeks later a new vet bill for an infection that was missed on the first visit. He plays with the other dogs.

Three weeks later he asks to be petted. He chewed up part of the rug.

Eight weeks later his coat shines, he has gained weight. He shows his clean teeth when his tongue lolls out after he plays chase in the yard with the gang. His eyes are soft and filled with life. He loves hugs and likes to show off his tricks, if you have the cheese.

Someone called today and asked about him, they saw the picture I took the first week. They asked about his personality, his history, his breed. They asked if he was pretty. I asked them lots of questions. I checked up on them. I prayed. I said yes. When they saw him the first time they said he was the most beautiful dog they had ever seen.

Six months later I got a call from his new family. He is wonderful, smart, well behaved and very loving. How could someone not want him?

I told them I didn't know.

He is beautiful.

They all are.

Chunk is a 4yr old male large pom. He is a beautiful chestnut red boy with a great personality. Once he gets to know you he is all love and kisses. He is house trained and gets along with other mellow animals including cats! Chunk lost his home when his parents divorced and the bank began the foreclosure process on his home. He had to live there for weeks without electricity or running water. Luckily his former mom cared enough to take him supplies during the day. Since coming to rescue he is relearning that people are amazing and not going to abandon him again.

Casie would love a home where she can spend the rest of her days.  She is about 10 and hasn't got the world's best working heart but it's still got plenty of love left in it.  After her 92 year old owner had to be placed into a care facility due to dementia Casie needs to find a furever foster home or adoptive home with someone that is willing to give her plenty of love for the time she has left so she knows she is cared about and loved. We don't want Casie to spend the last year or two of her life homeless. She doesn't take medicine or need routine trips to the vet right now and is easy to take care of.  She has a heart murmur that will eventually cause heart failure but presently is able to live a reasonably normal life.   If you can provide this lovely sweet senior girl with a furever home please contact us as soon as possible !

Lucky is a very sweet 10-12 yr old pommie girl. She was originally found stray in Downy with a bad trachea and her weight was so high that she could barely breathe! Now that she is slimming down she is very kissy and active. She gets along very well with others and knows how to use a doggie door. She is also very quiet.

Mochatini
A Sweet senior female originally from Camarillo. This poor baby had to have 2 large hernias removed from her abdomen. She is very cuddly and loving. She prefers people to be around and to give her lots of pets rather than to be at the group home where she is. She gets along well with other dogs and weighs about 8-9 lbs. She is very active and loves to go for walks as well.

JOHNNY came to us after being a stray out in the East Valley.  The shelter called us to please rescue Johnnie because he has a shrunken eye which makes him very special.  We had to give him a summer haircut because he was homeless for so long that his very beautiful full coat was too matted to brush out.  Johnny will be a gorgeous full coated boy when his coat grown in.  He is only about 4 years old and the shrunken eye doesn't bother him a bit.  This very friendly boy will make a fabulous family pet for a very lucky family.  He gets along quite well with the other boys in his group home and can't wait for his very own home and family.

I CAN TAKE A LICKIN AND I KEEP ON TICKIN so I was named TIMEX,  I am the nicest, sweetest most loving five year old boy you will find.  I was homeless and looking for food one night on a dark dark road out in the country and got hit by a car.  I was very lucky not to be badly hurt and the lady stopped to take are of me.  She took me to the emergency hospital where my eye was put back in place and it's all OK now.  I have a little bit of arthritis in my hips but a better diet will probably help me.  I got a bath, a new hairdo and some vaccines and aside from a few scrapes I am good to go.  I weigh 11 pounds and am barely knee high to my foster mom.  I will make a PERFECT pet if you want a quiet sweet lap doggie to love you forever. Please give me a warm bed and loving furever home !!!! I don't like being a homeless doggie, it's dangerous out there you know.

Hi, I am Buddy "Poof" as my foster mom calls me. I am 8lbs and 6-8yrs young. I love to jump up and give cuddles or roll over for belly rubs. I am very gentle and get along just fine with other doggies. I only mark territory outside so far.  I love attention and am very active.

Hi, I am copper. I am a sweet 6-8yr old female pommie. I have tons of hair and love to be pet. I am very friendly and learning house manners. I am good with other doggies and people of all ages.  I am about 6-7 lbs and would love to be your lap doggy!

Hi, I am lady Gigi. I love to do tricks for attention. I run run run until the day is done. I am 3-5yrs yound and about 5-6 lbs.  I LOVE attention and will do just about anything you let me to get it.  I am very smart but not food motivated, attention is my motivator.  I am crate trained at bed time and walk on a leash very well. I get along with other dogs and am about 80% house trained.  If I can smell a mess I will pee there.  I love a good cuddle, brush, bath, or any other physical contact.  Please give me a home with kids!

Ike is a sweet senior black and tan Pomeranian. He has a mild trachea cough but is otherwise healthy. He weighs about 7 lbs and is very friendly. He is good with other dogs and very mellow all around.

A 4-5yr old red sable male pommie. Howard was given to the animal shelter for supposedly having bitten a small child. Since coming to rescue Howard has shown no signs of aggression towards people of any age. Howard is a bit of a lazy man but gets along well with other mild mannered poms. His favorite things are bully sticks and pets. Howard will growl at overly active poms.

Good day, I am Yoda. I am a very sweet little 8lb pommie male. I have VERY unique markings on my ears and face. I love children, other dogs, and don't notice cats. I a a little shy but that is because I came from IA and living in a chicken coop for many years.  I am between 4-6yrs old and enjoy running in the yard and going for walks. I am currently learning house manners and getting pretty good at it. Can you give me the home that I never had?

Bart is a sweet 9 month old Pomeranian male.  His owners were unable to care for him properly and thus he would require his paw being amputated.  He gets along with cats and dogs as well as children.  He is about 8 lbs and partially house trained.

Carter is a sweet 4-6month old Pomeranian Male. He weighs about 14lbs currently.  He *adores* water and other dogs. He's a wrestler, and would spend hours a day playing with another dog if he could. He'll get in the shower if you let him, and loves being chased with the hose in the backyard. (or let play with the sprinkler adapter!) He likes cats and he'll try to get them to play a few times a day, but a quick nose bop and he retreats. He has no problems at the dog park, and isn't afraid of larger dogs.
Positive reward/clicker training has worked really with him, if he's not goaded/reinforced by other dogs barking he's very quiet, and usually doesn't bark at all. 'sit' is really all he'll do solidly right now, but it's useful for 'sit at the door and wait until I say "let's go!" to go outside' 'sit so I can catch you" "sit for food" etc. He is patient for combing and nail clipping, but it's pretty low on his list of awesome things.
He needs to be crated overnight, or he will find things to chew on. During the day he only goes in there for meals, but he usually naps in it in his own. He's learning to like people, and will sit for attention. Getting up on the bed first thing in the morning and giving kisses and attention is a new favorite.

Crestina is a happy go lucky little senior girl about 10 years young. She is still fairly active and very cuddly. She was originally picked up by orange co animal control as a stray with a Chihuahua friend. Unfortunately the Chihuahua got a home without her. She is now with pom rescue and wants nothing more than to give everyone love despite the poor condition of her skin and fur. She will follow you all around and loves to look out the window on car rides.

Farley Sr is a tiny pommie male about 8yrs old.  He has been determined to have a thyroid condition which requires a low cost medication for management and is a sweet little man who loves to run around.  He was obviously abused in the past so he is shy of being picked up, but likes to watch you and gets along fine with other poms.  He is energetic and playful with toys.

Grizzly is a sweet 7lb pommie male. He was picked up by the animal shelter as a stray, so more than likely he will need to learn house manners.  He is good with other dogs and loves attention and belly rubs.

Princess is a 5-6yr old female sweet hart. She does bark a little at other dogs while on lead so she needs some training for that. Otherwise in her home she does get along with other dogs. She is very gentle and would be fine for a home with children and the patience to train her properly.

Roxie is a wonderfully kissy, cuddly, active pommie woman! She loves to walk with you or go for a car ride. She enjoys cuddling and gets along very well with other dogs. Poor Roxie spent most of her life as an outdoor dog, so she needs some help learning house manners. She is not a big barker, and the #1 reason for that is that she was born deaf! Despite this she is still able to play and live just like a normal Pomeranian. It just means that she will not bark at people outside or sirens going down the street.

Princess Carson is a sweet black female Pomeranian who has lost most of her teeth.  This girl is learning how to be a good house doggie right now as we just got her out of the shelter on 7-18/10.

Vinny
I am a super sweet teeny tiny little 5 lb male pommie.  I got lost and my owners never came to the shelter to get me.  I was so scared I didn't know what to do.  Now that I am in rescue my tail has not stopped wagging and I am recovering from the many flea bites I suffered while stray.  I love people of all ages and have no problem with other animals.  Don't you think I am cute?  I could sure use a loving owner like you!

Beverly is a shy Pomeranian female about 2-3yrs old.  She prefers to have her home to herself, although we are working to see if she can have furry friends that were not with her in IA.   She spent a good portion of her life in a chicken coop with 11 other Pomeranians and more.  For this reason she is shy and barks a little bit.  She gets along well with her siblings from IA but has shown some fear of other dogs.  She is about 9 lbs and is brown in coloration.  She is getting a pregnancy test on 8/1/10 and based on those results she will become available on 8/4/10.

Blanca is a sweet 3-4yr old white Pomeranian female with black dappled ears.  This little sweetie loves attention and other dogs. She does not mind children either.  She has a lot of energy so she needs regular walks or a well fenced yard to play in.  She is learning house manners and how to live in a home.  She spent most of her life in a chicken coop, so please be patient while she learns!  She is getting a pregnancy test on 8/1/10 and based on those results will become available as of 8/4/10.

Diva is a 3-5yr old white female Pomeranian.  Diva lives up to her little name with her prancing and primadonna looks.  She is super sweet and learning very quickly what it means to be a house doggy rather than a puppy mill pommie.  She spent most of her life in a chicken coop in IA and as of Aug 1st we will know if she is pregnant or not! She can be adopted on Aug 7th-8th based on the results of her pregnancy test.

She spent most of her life in an IA puppy mill.  For this reason she is learning how to live in a home and have house manners.  She is very quiet and likes to be talked to softly.  She is getting a pregnancy test on 8/1/10 and depending on these results will be available as of 8/4/10.

Roxann is a super sweet and fully loving pommie girl.  She weighs about 7lbs and LOVES children and adults alike. She insists that she gets attention by running up an nuzzling you.  She will give you endless kisses and beg for butt scratches.  She spent most of her life in an IA puppy mill but has adjusted very well to living with people.  She is learning house manners and gets along just fine with other animals.  She is getting a pregnancy test on 8/1/10 and will be available as of 8/4/10 based on these results.

Rosa is a sweet 3-4 yr old orange female Pomeranian.  She grew up in a chicken coop at a puppy mill in IA.  She is about 7 lbs but very cuddly.  She gets along well with other Pomeranians and does not mind children.  She is energetic and will climb over bay gates, so she needs a well fenced yard and regular walks.  She loves bath time and getting snuggles.  She will be available on 8/4/10 as she is in heat and has to wait to be spayed.

Please pardon Fanni's funny look. She was just coming out of anesthesia from her spay.  Her owner "dumped" her when they were done with her.  She is VERY small at 5 lbs and had a bit shy so she will hide right now.  With some gentle words and treat we are sure she will warm up quickly!  She is good with other dogs and seems to be partially house trained for now.  Fanni needs a foster home to help her adjust to life outside of a cage.

April

May

"The Twins" April and May

Please pardon May's funny look. She was just coming out of anesthesia from her spay and hernia repairs.  Her owner "dumped" her when they were done with her.  She is VERY overweight and had hotspots that she is being treated for.  She and April seem to be sisters!  April LOVES belly rubs, butt scratches, and any other human contact.  She prefers to have her own food dish but is otherwise good with other animals.  May seems to be partially house trained for now.  April needs a foster home to help her adjust to life outside of a cage.

Spring is a very sweet 7lb pommie female. She is an apricot parti merle.  This means that she is apricot spotted with a blue eye!  She loves to be pet and cuddled.  She is sleeping in a bed with her foster mom and is learning house training very quickly.  She was "dumped" by her owner while pregnant, unfortunately we did not know she was pregnant so she was spayed.  She gets along very well with other dogs and does not mind children.

Tiffany is a sweet 3-4yr old cream female Pomeranian.  She was "dumped" with a large hot spot on her back and a hernia on her abdomen. Now that those are taken care of, she wants nothing more than to cuddle and loaf about with people.  She does get along with other dogs, but cats are unknown.  She is a little shy but warms up quickly.  She does not mind children.  She is also in need of a foster home.

Please pardon #6’s funny look. She was just coming out of anesthesia from her spay.  Her owner "dumped" her when they were done with her.  She is VERY small at 5 lbs and had a bit shy so she will hide right now and pretend to be a nipper but she does not bite.   He coloring is called a tri-color black and tan with white.  With some gentle words and treat we are sure she will warm up quickly!  She is good with other dogs and seems to be partially house trained for now.  This little girl needs a foster home to help her adjust to life outside of a cage.
